What is a Kindspark?

Am I spending my time on the right things?” — a recurring thought of a self-diagnosed workaholic.

What are the “right” things?  For me, “right” has been having an impact and scaling that impact. But as part of the collective who experienced “perspective” during the Covid era, my definition of “right” has expanded.  Working on what is right for a company’s mission is still a component, but it is now an integrated part of what is right for the greater community. So right is still… right, but there’s more. The urgency of both accelerated modern technological development and of human suffering adds the dimension of “enough”. So the question has become “Am I spending my time doing enough of the right things?”

Imminent irreversible climate crises, untreated diseases, unmitigated bias being propagated to our technology — there are so many sources of preventable suffering and death. At the same time, we live in a land of rich resources, capital in all forms— financial, intellectual, social. If we use these resources efficiently, we can make change. The world is objectively changing faster than ever.  To harness this acceleration for good, we need different ways to create value and scale impact.

Kindspark is our answer to that. All this rich financial, intellectual, and social capital are like kindling, strewn about. Flammable, but they aren’t going to pile and light themselves. We need agents with kindness to coax the kindling together in a single place, where the fire would be useful, piled such that the oxygen flows. Then we need agents to place a spark in the right places, shield from the elements, and coax the flames to light and grow. Finally, we need agents to teach how to tend the fires, so those who are kindling pilers and lighters can move on to build more fires. We at Kindspark strive to be that kind spark to get the right fires to burn, and keep burning, to keep the community warm — to make good use of these rich resources for the betterment of our society and humanity.

Without this kindness, a spark is just chance, or destruction.  We don’t have time for this any more.
